Also at the Commons, the Federal Way Farmers Marketwill be open Saturday from 9:00am – 3:00pm.  As usual,  Master Gardeners will be on hand all day and will be offering Vegetable Gardening classes at 11:00am and 1:00pm.

Woodmont K-8 School will reopen Tuesday, May 5th with late arrival at 10: 15 a.m. There will be no morning kindergarten.

The Local Health Officer has determined that closure of Woodmont K-8 School and cessation of all Woodmont K-8 School activities and functions is no longer necessary. Seattle King County Public Health Department recommended that schools no longer routinely close on the basis of diagnosis of probable or confirmed cases of influenza A H1N1.

Dear Federal Way Public Schools Students, Families and Staff:

We have received notification from the King County Health Department that a student at Woodmont Elementary has a highly probable case of H1N1 Influenza (“swine flu”). The Health Department is ordering the building to be closed for seven days beginning tomorrow. Parents have been asked to keep their students home. School will re-open on Friday, May 8, however – because this is a non-student day – students will return to school on Monday, May 11.

 Obviously, the H1N1 Flu situation continues to change quickly. It’s not unlikely that we will see more cases of H1N1 Flu and school closures in our district. Federal Way Public Schools staff members are working closely with the local, state, and national health agencies to investigate any illnesses and/or infections.  While this is a time to prepare, it’s not time to panic. Local health authorities report that most H1N1 cases in the United States are similar to regular seasonal influenza common each winter.  Most people have uncomplicated infections that get better without medical treatment, although some people can have more serious infections.

In 2005, when “bird flu” concerns emerged, the State Department of Health, OSPI, and other state and local agencies created a multi-step plan to deal with a possible pandemic. That plan is helping schools and government agencies decide a course of action as this flu outbreak runs its course.

Less than a year after opening  O’cean Sushi and Grill is currently closed and is re-inventing itself as a Japanese buffet.

A new Indian restaurant is also coming to the complex that houses the Galaxy Theater.

Things tend to “heat up” in the summer.  Are recent events a precursor to things to come?

What will happen when the Federal Way Police aren’t guarding the Transit Center again?  Will they start parking an empty patrol car across the street as a supposed deterrent?

I’m sure they are better than KFC.  Hopefully, they’ll have better food and service than Popeye’s.

If you loved the Original Roadhouse Grill, I am sure Jimmy Mac’s, Billy McHales, or Red Robin will do just fine.  If not, you’ll have to drive to Everett for the only Original Roadhouse Grill left in the state.

Hopefully, part of Starbucks new re-invention plans include a new store for Federal Way – something large where you can sit down and read.   We also hope that if another coffee stand opens in Federal Way that it will be a local outfit – like Poverty Bay.

United has cited the difficult financial times we’re in as the reason for this delay.  The city council will be considering this request at tonight’s council meeting.

Here’s hoping this does not end up going the way of much smaller projects recently abandoned in downtown Kent and Auburn or get scaled down to become yet another low-rise strip mall.  Given the close proximity to the city’s core and transit center, nothing less that what has been proposed should move forward.
